    Re: actron timing light

Yes. The 7529 performs the advance/retard function with pushbuttons labeled with up/down arrows. It then displays the degrees on a 4-digit LED display. If you like analog stuff, the 7528 has a "steam gauge" dial-type knob on back of the head that you set by rotation like a rheostat.

        Jeff,
In layman's terms can you please educate me and explain how the dial back timing light works sinc eit is not physically moving the distributor.
I just bought one of those dial back lights to use on my 68 after using aregualr light for 40 years but I don't understand the principle of how the timing light can advance or retard the spark sinc ethe distributor is not being moved.
        Please educate an old man.
        Thanks
        Kurt

It is not changing the timing of the spark. It is advancing when the strobe light of the gun lights up. So, if you set it for 35 degrees of advance, you'll know you have 35 degree of advance (typical full throttle test, with vacuum can plugged) when the mark on your harmonic balancer lines up with the sero mark on the timing tab on the timing chain cover. Using the same example, if it lines up with the mark for 4 degrees advance, then you have 39 degrees of advance. If it lines up with the mark for 4 degrees retarded, you have 31 degrees of advance.

I usually start at around 35 degrees, then adjust my gun until the mark lines up with zero degrees, then whatever degrees of advance are displayed on the gun are the degrees the timing was advanced.
