My 54 Vette has a oil filter which is clamped to the steering column. I feel sure these didn't come from the factory and were after market. Would you recommend leaving it off or instaling it? Where would be a better place to mount it. It seems on old chevys it was mounted to the intake manifold which wouldn't work on the vette. I'd like to utilize the filter but want to make the engine compartment look correct. Any thoughts?

Mine had one
for many years, a remote cannister on the fenderwall. Aftermarket, of course, a beautiful chromed item, which oddly enough used a roll of toilet paper as the filter element, I kid you not! I still haver it in a box somewhere. The optional factory 55 unit mounted on the front of the intake manifold, and was much too tall for the Corvette.- Top

Re: Mine had one
I still have one of those. It was a Frantz brand filter on a '63 pass L75 engine I bought in '63 that had gone into the drink the night before I got it. I never have used it. My first and last experience with salt water damage.- Top
