Re: Passenger Car 57 FI Air Filter
John
This was the unrestored 57 Chevy FI Turbo Hydromatic engine that Gary Pronesti had at Kissimmee.
I think it was pulled from a California car.
We opened the air cleaner assembly and took that picture. The element was much larger than a Corvette type.

Re: Passenger Car 57 FI Air Filter
HI Joe, I will ask Gary today as I owe him a car. A typical pass car element looks about the same as a Corvette only taller. Could be the pic though. My NOS 61C has wire mesh on the outside. Gary's looked "fuzzy" whatever that means. Didn't look correct. But you can't see it anyhow. Knowing Pronesti it could be a blue NAPA replacement. He's my bud. THey don't come any nicer than Gary. Re: John..another view..slice of history
Joe, I like the cast iron top water outlet. So many think the part should be the aluminum one. Those came later. THanks for the nice pics. THose two B &H bolts for the fuel filter look fresh though. Later. Going to Spring Carlisle to set up and have lots to pack. Take care, John- Top

Joe--
Hard to tell on the picture--are the valve covers low relief or high relief 7-fins? THey almost look like high relief, which I was led to believe came later.
Great pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Passenger Car 57 FI Air Filter
It might have been unrestored but it didn't come with the Corvette valve covers from the factory. The transmission was most likely a turboglide or a Powerglide since there was not Turbo Hydromatic. Also the 283 hp pass cars had the air intake on top of the core support and the 250HP cars had the air inlet down beside the radiator on the inside of the core support. GL- Top

250 HP / Turboglide as I recall from conversation on the scene. I didn't use the word virgin..just unrestored.Upon close view..you can see the water pump is chevy orange and the block is chevy red..none the less a very interesting...engine.
I think it had single tower heads and not pyramid heads.
Consider the length of time 50 years...of either normal maintainance or owner discretion...to change things.
This is why I personally have such high regard for items untouched and original..and believe they are more important as unrestored items.

Re: Passenger Car 57 FI Air Filter
I agree Joe. I bought a 250HP FI turboglide 57 from the original owner that was unmolested. I took Amgwert with me to look it over before I handed over the cash. We did take a bunch of pics of it when I got it. It actually ran good. One I wish I still had! GL- Top
