My 69 clock is a royal pain in the bu**. If I convert it to a quartz movement it will work like the Eveready *****! What type of point deduction am I looking at?

Re: Judging Question - Clock
Erv,
My '67 clock had never been out of the car before I restored the car. Roger Scott od Corvette Instruments cleaned and lubricated it and it has never skipped a tick except when the battery disconnect is unconnected. Then, the clock winds down and stops. Restored in 1994 and still working perfectly today. Why not give him a call about restoring your clock and retain those 25 points.

Re: Judging Question - Clock
I just received it back from Roger. He stated it worked fine on the bench and I believe him. After I installed it, it would not work. I checked, it has power to the clock. I bench tested it and had a hard time to get it to work. It finally started so I re-installed it. You guessed the bleep bleep didn't work.
I guess I need to pull it out again and send it back to Roger.- Top

Re: Judging Question - Clock
pulled mine out over a week ago, took the back off, cleaned and lubed it and it has run ever since (63 coupe). make sure ground is good at connector also. would not hurt to put a voltmeter across the conector so you check both at the same time

Re: Judging Question - Clock
My thought on the ground:
The dash lights need a ground to work and they are attached to the same surface the clock is screwed to. Are you saying the insulated stud that the power lead is attached, on the back of the clock, may be faulty and therefore not getting a proper ground.
With a voltmeter I should see 12 volts if I cross the ground and lead correct?- Top

Re: Judging Question - Clock
my clock has pos and ground in 1 connector, therfore that is where it would be checked. but if your clock grounds through the mounting surface, you should check between the surface and pos wire. it should read battery voltage. would check before you ship back to repair facility

Re: Judging Question - Clock
You can buy a brand new one from Instrument Services, Inc in Roscoe, IL (see link below).
That's what I did. Works flawlessly. I got sick of fixing my old one - especially after it broke on the way to a judging event, costing me 25 points.

Re: Judging Question - Clock
I just assumed my clocked grounded through the mounting surface. It is a original February 69 clock, do you know if it grounds between the surface or the stud that protrudes from the back inwhich the positive lead is attached to.- Top
