1965 N40 Option

I read in Corvette Restorer, 1980, Vol 6, #4 a piece from Chevrolet Service News dated March 65 that stated the N40 power steering option was now available for the 327, 350hp engine.

What month did this happen? Could a Late Jan 65 car have the N40 option?

Dennis,

The L79 (350 HP engine) was equipped with the 5 quart oil pan, very early in production, therefore precluding the possibility of power steering. AFAIK, the 4 quart pan was certainly used by 1/65, and so permitting N40.
Someone will probably chime in here, but my guess is that the 5 quart pan was used only for the first month of production, or so.

I think they went from 6 quort pan from the 365hp to the 5 quort pan so they could have power steering, I dont recall a 4 quort pan ,I think even the 250hp and 300hp also had the 5 quort pan. jim
