'72: Removing underbody seat belt brkt

    Hello,

I have a damaged seat belt bracket-the one under the floor (NOT the one in wheel well). I removed all 7 rivets successfully, but the bracket will not come off, and I suspect it's also glued on. Is that correct? Any way to remove it without damaging the floor fiberglass?

    Thanks!

Actually, I think you still have a few rivets to go...I count four each side in the floor where the cable ends attach, and two each tunnel side where the seat belts attach. I found no adhesive on this part; once you get all the rivets out, it should fall free.

I have seen some adhesive in the bottom of the bracket. I would tap it with a hammer to see if it will come loose after all the rivets are out.

I agree with Lyle, I have seen a few with adhesive, not all though. If the tapping does not loosen it up, take a SHARP putty knife and carefully break the bracket loose from the floor pan.

Ah, I better clarify; I'm referring to the outer seat belt bracket, not the upside-down U-shaped one in the tunnel. The one I'm working on is near the rocker panel.

I will have to keep trying with a sharp putty knife; the trouble is the glue seems to be deep in the center of it, and I'm having a tough time gettint to the glue.

I would use some heat on the metal if it is stuck that tight. I thought that was the bracket you was working on. Most of the ones I removed were badly rusted and came off very easy.

              Lyle,

Thanks for the idea of heat; I'll see if that helps.

WHEN YOU REPLACE THE BRACKET WHAT WOULD YOU USE TO REMOUNT ALONG WITH THE RIVETS

Dave, turn off your caps, all caps is considered shouting. I would use a two part adhesive such as a 3M or SEMS product with the rivets.
