Sometime during later 1969 model year production (I would guess about October 1969, or there 'bouts) the location and configuration of the passenger side hood latch changed. If you had the later style 1969 hood, there is no difference (even in some cases including the holes) between that hood and the 1970-1972 LT1 hood -- baring some molded in letters and numbers on the underside of the hood.
Yes, some original 1970-1972 LT1 hoods have been found with 454 emblem holes filled at the factory. And I would guess that the holes for 427 emblems would be in slightly different locations -- at least the last two numbers -- than those for 427.
I kinda thought that the 68-69 hood was unique to those years but most of the vendors advertize them as 68-72 hoods so I was a little confused. I guess the repro hoods must be made to accept both types of pass side latches. Do you know if the later hoods can be retro-fitted to look proper on the 68-69 or would it be a lot of work to mod them?
I forgot about the different hood prop mounting location for the 1972, so that year is unique for that reason.
I don't know how difficult it would be to modify the early style ('68-69E) hood, but anything is possible -- the old time and money story. I suppose a donor piece from the later style hood (even a SB hood) would work. Depends on how good one is with fiberglass.
