    Paul----

I hate to overly alarm you, but was the windshield frame checked for corrosion damage when the windshield seal was replaced? This condition is a common cause of windshield leakage problems. I've been hearing a lot more of these problems lately. But, that's probably to be expected. These cars are getting older by the day and corrosion which, perhaps, began 30 years ago, has been proceeding inexorably ever since.

However, this MAY NOT be the cause of your problems, but it's definitely appropriate to check it out.

Joe, thanks for the quick response. the seal was replaced for me by the dealer. i am taking it back to the glass company that did it for him and i'll check the frame carefully. is the rubber supposed to be glued in any way? the water just runs down the outside of the glass and bubbles up inside between the glass and the rubber.

        Paul,

There should be a thin layer of black polyurethane applied between the glass and the rubber channel, and also between the rubber channel and the pinchweld (metal birdcage). This is not OEM but is the correct current technology and undetectable. This is a very difficult task to do neatly but will eliminate the leak. If there is rust on the bird cage, have it removed and primed properly. Make sure the glass company uses the correct primers for the urethane and does not use silicone adhesives/sealers. Some of the silicone sealers are very agressive to metal and will damage it. Rubber set windshields are very old technology. The best thing to do is to shop around your local glass shops and identify one who has a very long term associate 20 plus years. They know how to do this with no problem. If a younger glass technician does the work, they have not had the opportunity to have perfromed the number of rubber sets they would need to...to get proficient at them...experience talking!
