Who Make the Best Argent Silver Paint?

I'm getting ready to purchase new repro F 70 15 tires for my '68 and need to know who sells the best argent silver paint that has the green hue. I know a number of places sell the paint but I need the most accurate. I have been told before during judging that the paint I used perviously was too silver. Has anyone out there actually used a certain brand and had it judged as being correct? Thanks for your help.

I did just that before I posted the question. Only found recently someone wanting to know the backside color of the rim. Also, older responses may not be accurate anymore.

Gee that's funny, when I searched the archives I found lots of posts on the subject. Anyway try OEM Paints (760-747-2100), #11025, their paint has the greenish tint you want.

I've tried all of the popular suppliers of argent silver paints, and there is not a correct one for the 69 Argent Silver. I am not sure if 68 is the same, but I finally gave up after spending way too much on different paints. I finally got to see an original wheel at the National convention at San Antonio last year. The orininal color is much more grey than silver (much darker than the available paints.)

I think the only way to get the right color is to find an original wheel and get a computer color match.

I too searched the archives in the quest for the best argent silver paint. By the way the search engine is a topic of its own.

OEM was always recommended and you probably won't go wrong in using their product.

I took the formula Lars posted and had it put in rattle cans via Wisconcin. Just received them today so it will be awhile. After I finish the wheels and have them judged I will post the results.

The OEM paint did not pass judging on a 69 at the National in San Antonio last year.

There is a PPG code for Argent Silver on the Chevrolet color chip charts beginning in 1965: DQE-8568. The 1970 thru 1972 charts specifically mention this color on Corvette wheels. Tim

I wouldn't think that you should see a green hue on a '68.

I really feel that the color of the wheel paint and how much green hue is an area where judges each have their own idea what they are looking for so it will be hard to get them all to agree on this subject. I just gave up on this item and don't worry about how the wheels are judged.
