    GM yukon off topic

I am experiencing a humm or similar to a speaker feedback from a small mike or speaker in the headliner above the drivers head in an 03 - is this part of On-star. The noise starts when ignition is turned on and slows down when turned off. The remote for the truck was just reprogrammed . thanks for your input.

    Re: Onstar

My 02 GMC with onstar does the same thing since new. My 06 Chevy without onstar does not.
I think it's the onstar emergency monitor or cell phone shutdown.

So I wish onstar was available as an aftermarket item. It'd be a great item to add to our Corvettes, hidden away somewhere so if it's stolen the autorities could be notified and locate it, maybe even unlock the doors if you leave your keys in it!

Common complaint with early OnStar systems. Not only in GMC's but across the full GM product line according to a friend of mine that is service manager at a full line GM dealer

Check with your GM dealer. On-Star is going all digital by the end of the year
and is offering to upgrade the older units for $15 plus a one year contract.
You may get GM to fix the problem at the same time. I expect you have an analog
unit as I have one in my 03 Envoy. Never have had the problem you have in
either the 03 or the 06 Denali.
On-Star is the way to go along with sat radio, makes crosscountry driving a lot
        more pleasant!

Kelly: I thought the same thing on my 02 Denali XL and that is NOT the on-star mic/speaker (it is mounted at the RV mirror stalk). Rather, it is part of the automatic HVAC system and contains a small fan to draw air over a temp. sensor. I had a worsening hum and had it replaced about 04 and has been good since.
