C1 Tach. cable

Can anyone verify the correct finish for the tach. cable on a '59 230 horse? The cable I took out of my car had a black plastic finish, but I notice that some of the repos are wound steel. I cannot find any reference to the finish in the judging manual, and I've had both finishes suggested as correct. I'd just like to make it like it once was. I understand, with the judging manual the way it is, there likely isn't any points dedect either way, but I'd still like to make sure it's correct. Thanks in advance.

The NCRS judging guide calls for unpainted spiral steel cased for '58 thru late '59 and then black vinyl covered for mid-'59 and later. The way it sounds, from mid to late '59 you could find it either unpainted or vinyl covered.

Keep in mund the plastic covered cables originally were made in a configuration completely different than the current reproductions, as the plastic went over the crimped area and covered it. Most reproductions run the plastic covering under the crimp, and the OD of the finished housing is smaller than original.
