    RPO 687 replacement brake drums

Anyone know where I can get replacement drums for my 61. I have the original finned brake drums but would like to have a set to "drive on". I want to save the originals for show. Seems like all the vendors sell standard brake drums that I don't believe will fit my original HD suspension and 687 set up.
    Thanks,
    Ron

They'll fit just fine... But, why worry...

I've had 1 '63 Z06 & 4 687 cars. Ran the original drums, usually with fabric linings. My guess, the drums will last longer than you & I combined given the typical use we give them. Just my thoughts on the issue you raise.

agreee with dennis. the finned drums are have consideably more "meat" in their areas exposed to the brake shoes. mike

Thanks guys. I was worried about wear knowing I only have the originals once. If they'll last, it will save me a bunch of time swapping drums.

With limited use..I agree with Dennis and Mike..however..the value of your original finned drums is so high..that..one might consider using standard drums for regular street use...and the finned drums for show.

          Probably your original thought.

              No witty reply

Dennis..you know better than me..that blocks and transmissions are in far greater supply than real..RPO 684/687 backing plates and finned drums.

I guess if you think in terms of fine wine..then go ahead and enjoy them. I just thought the owner might want to know that he could pay a years College tuition with the value of those drums..and the regular guy ..doesn't give a Sh^t..or even know what they are...or if they belong on the car.

                  Harvard!!

A complete set of RPO 684 / 687 big brakes..to include drums, backing plates, scoops, dust covers, brake linings and wheel cylinders..would cover the cost of a years tuition at any top private Universtity in the USA...including Harvard!

Thus the question..are they suitable for everyday use and abuse...considering that value...not to mention rarity!

4 kids..( 2 graduated from private Universtity, one from a State University, one currently enrolled and a wife in Law school ).
