Flywheel Inspection cover tabs

On a 69' 427 manual, I'm putting my flywheel inspection cover back on. It has 2 tabs that appear to me need to go arounf the lip of the oil pan (this would be on the rounded portion of the oil pan. Is that correct?

BTW, I still have my oil leak. It's definitely coming from between the pan and the main bearing cap. Appears as if can't get enough torque to seal it with that thick FelPro gasket on their.

That is correct; the tabs are supposed to clip behind the oil pan rear lip. Some original covers did not have the tabs. Believe me, whether, or not, yours originally had the tabs, YOU WANT THEM. This prevents the cover fom distorting at this point and contacting the crankshaft flange.

That oil driving me crazy. Does it make any sense to you that the pan can't seal at the main?

Yes, it can happen. However, at that location, if there's a leak it is usually the rear main seal.

Well, signing out from Ontario, CA; I'm off to Hesperia. If the weather is good, I might be at the Pomona, CA giant swap meet/car show tomorrow. Who knows, I might run into the "Pulley King" there?
