C1 Trunk Spring Noise

I am looking for thoughts on how to correct the trunk spring noise. Noise occurs only at the top of the travel. The springs do not hit or drag on the associated brackets. The noise comes from inside the spring. It can be stopped by holding the spring perfectly straight with your hands.

Every C1 that I have ever owned did the same thing.

I have the same noise on my 54 too. Trunk lid works perfect and stays open, just a little noise as it reaches the fully open position. I can live with that

I was afraid it would make me fail my PV on my '62 at Las Vegas so I pulled the rod out of the inside of the spring and took the die grinder ever so slightly to the threads where it rubs. And yes my previous '61 and '62 made the same noise. Have fun

On every solid axle I have restored I lubed every friction point with white brake lub(grease) ,and have never had a noisy trunk lid hinge. I also use this on the door hinges as the factory did.
