C2 tire pressure decal

The existing tire pressure decal in the glove box door on my late 67 reads
"vehicle load limit=450 lbs"
The reproduction decal available from Paragon reads
"vehicle load limit=450#"

I think the existing decal is original.
Is the # sign incorrect?

If the existing is correct, any tips on how to mask it without damaging it?

Here's my late 67 Glove box door with it's original tire pressure decal and with a 67 repro next to it:


As we determined, the original decal on my late 67 was actually a 66 decal with the # instead of lbs. Not sure if the repro is correct with lbs vs #.

As I thought it was something unique, I opted to keep the original on the door, correct or not. It just had too much character to it.

In painting the door, I made a file folder cardboard template of the decal and just lightly stuck it on the decal in painting the door. Any overspray along the edges came off very easy with a rag dipped in lacquer thinner.

I know the decal is original to my late 67, as I revised the rear tire pressure in ballpoint pen when I put Michelin X's on in 1969. The ballpoint markings also came off with the lacquer thinner.

Looking in Nolands book, p59, lbs is correct for a 67, # for a 66.
However, it sure looks like the character size is off on my repro.

Randy - I Jerry had bought all of his car all at one time, not like the Jonny Cash song goes, he would have had the 67 TIRE PRESSURE sticker instead of a 66. Just kidding Jerry, I've seen a number of original 67s with the 66 TIRE PRESSURE stickers on the glovebox.

The TIRE PRESSURE sticker on my 67, S/N 1476, that I expect is the original one, PART NO. 3910795 w/ the P in the Bow Tie logo, has

VEHICLE LOAD LIMIT=450 LBS.

The repro label appears pretty good with an exception of line spacing between
VEHICLE LOAD LIMIT = 450 LBS. and
92 PASS + 150 LBS. LUGGAGE)
Since my photo was taken in dark light with a flash, the focus leaves a lot to be desired. It is difficult to compare with the repro.

Randy, If I remember correctly when I restored my door I used either a cap or paint spray can on the label. Jerry's idea is probably the best but if your label is frayed as mine was even the slightest tape started pulling off some of the label. Then you have to go with plan B. I believe the can was slightly under sized but you can move it from side to side as you are spraying it. Then when it is sprayed clean the edges with laquer thinner as Jerry mentioned. I have found and you can be assured if Jerry has restored something it is done correctly.

ps: I have touched up scratches and rub marks on the face of the dash board and the glove box with a magic marker. I worked well.

The repro 67 one in the picture above, I got from Corvette Central. It has the correct lbs on it. I see in the Paragon catalog that their 67 with # is incorrect, holy cow.

However, I think the spacing and font is off in the CC one. I didn't use it as it looked too clean and kind of phoney. I went with my incorrect original, but factory original, with the patina of nicotine from smoking in the car for many years.

If yours is not in too bad a shape, you might consider leaving it.

Memories are better than points off, and how many can they take.
