Reinstalling door locks after repainting door jambs (first 2 coats). Question: how much body sealer do I apply around the lock wheel where it protrudes through the jamb?? Is it just a thick bead & squeeze-out without any attempt to smooth it flush? Anyone have a photo of the factory appearance? thanks as always.

Re: 1965 Door Lock Finishing
Don't believe there was any body sealer in this location as its inside of the weatherstrip...... Also to be "correct" there should be some body color on the lock assy as they were installed prior to painting and masked off.- Top

Re: 1965 Door Lock Finishing
Steve: yes there was "plastic cement" called for in the AIM, UPC 1 K7. I'm thinking its purpose was to help secure the lock mechanism, rather than as a weather seal.
I'm just wondering how much of it was visible and whether it was smoothed out for appearance's sake.
I also found some trace of this same stuff on the screws for the lock assy.- Top

Re: 1965 Door Lock Finishing
Mike Look in your Assembly line manual for your year car. Go to the section that shows the door and you will find a number(in a square box, maybe a triangle)that will tell you what sealant and how much. Whenever a type of sealant, glue or something like that is used in some particular area, it's called out in the manual. If no number is associated with the lock assembly then none is needed. Hope this helps. Dale- Top
