C3 VIN Plate Reproduction

I have stripped my '74 Coupe down to the birdcage, and one of the many repairs that must be made is a reproduction of the original vin plate....cage is on it's way to the dip tank, so the plate has to come off anyway...original plate has two substantial holes in it, but is still legible. Thanks

Tommy,

I believe it is illegal to reproduce and attach a VIN plate in most if not all states. You need to check with your local DMV, but they will likely want to attach a state issued VIN for you. If at all possible, you need to find a way to preserve the original VIN tag without removing it.

Company is called Backeast, will reproduce it with suitable documentation.

However, may still be illegal, and identifiable by judges.

Yeah, I know that the request smells funny, but it is totally legit. I can remove the original plate in one piece, but then I am faced with the special rivets.... I'm not sure how I could protect the original plate from the dip bath without removing it...this body would be scrapped if I didn't have so much time and sentiment attached.
