    63 waterpump

On a 63 SB water pump (609, 175 or 326), what is the dimension from the pump mounting surface to the pulley mounting surface, and what is the dimension from the pulley mounting surface to the end of the 5/8" shaft ?

    Re: 63 waterpump

    Randy,

I had a similar problem when I had a BB water pump rebuilt two years ago. The problem: the rebuilder used the wrong bearing and also had the mounting flange for the pulley in the wrong spot on the pulley shaft. When I confronted them with the info, they wouldn't budge! So, I took it to another rebuilder, got it back and the pulleys lined up perfect!!

      Re: 63 waterpump

I just verified, that I have the wrong pump dimensions. Since it's a reproduction pump, I will be searching for the correct, GM original 609 pump and make sure the overall dimension is correct. At least, I don't have to monkey around with the harmonic balancer or spacers.
      Thanks for your help...

Ranier, Here is a dimension to check. Front of hub to flange is 5-9/16: That's on the 609 pump. By the way make sure you have the original sheetmetal backing plate. The one that's flat or you will have interference for sure if you use the later style. THe dimensions on rebuilding the pumps is in one of the shop manuals. I can't remember which one but I am sure the DB guys will chirp in.
Also don't forget to use the reinforcing plate behind the spacer. It also acts as a shim. We had trouble with my 609 pump clearance on my Feb 11 build engine and the shim or reinforcement plate solved the problem. John
