1967 Rear Leaf Spring Stencil Number

I am in the process of restoring a F-41 rear leaf spring, I cleaned the paint off and it revealed a painted stencel number of: 21-309-219

I never recall a stencel number before.

    Any feed back is apreciated.

    Bill,

I believe that number is the number assigned to that spring by the Spring Research Institute. It's not a GM number and I suspect your spring is a reproduciton.

The spring looks original, the ends are curled up like orginals and identical with the one on my car, the spring is at least 10+ years old and been in my colection of excess parts.

      I will do further investigation.

      Thanks.

        Bill,

It could be an old repro when they might have made then closer to the GM geometry in terms of the upturned ends. The shape of the upturned ends is really the only give away today in terms of GM vs. repro.

I had the EXACT same thing on my '71 LT-1. I talked to the folks at Eaton, who say that it is a Spring Institute number that certain repro's had on them back in the day. Mine looks like it's older than the car itself....I was actually relieved to hear that it's a repro, as it's sagged out beyond belief.
