    69 Rally Wheel Black Primer

I have searched the archives to find that a 69 has the inside of the wheel painted with a flat black primer and then painted with argent silver with a slight greenish hue on the outside. The archives go on to state where you can purchase, such as Quanta products, etc. I have called and asked for this paint and I get the "deer in the headlights" response from the sales representatives.

Can someone give me a product # or a specific paint I should use for the inner wheel color? I will have it put in rattle cans as I only have one whell to paint.

    Thanks

I surprised you get the "deer in the headlights" response...I would figure a newbie in the Corvette parts business might had that "Are you a space alien?" question in their voice.

Actually, Quanta, Ecklers, et al once sold the exact black primer that was used by GM, in GM gallon cans, with a GM part number (PN 1050104). Of course, if you were born onto the Corvette parts selling scene yesterday, you wouldn't know that because the paint is no longer available from GM.

Your best bet for painting one wheel will be spray can satin or semi-flat black from Home Depot or Lowe's; that gloss should be a pretty close match to the original black primer.

Erv, a several years ago Quanta did sell the argent silver wheel paint with the greenish hue and without. A few weeks ago I visited their site and could not find it listed there. They may not have it any more. The archives were correct, they at one time had it.

Yes, Quanta sold it...I still have the Quanta can with a little thickened sludge in the bottom. I was hoping it could be reconstituted by thorough shaking with reducer, but I think it was already history the last time I looked. Their green hue wheel paint had a really bad chemical smell...it was totally unlike any of the pleasant lacquer or enamel bouquets I ever smelled; you clearly wouldn't want to get high on those vapors.

Quanta no longer sells the paint to my knowledge; you're now pretty much forced to "mix your own" if you want the correct green hue. Try an archive search again; this subject has been covered by some that were successful. Edit: As I recall, they added a drop or two of a medium green tint to the regular argent silver.
