    '66 original ground strap finish

Were the ends that attached the original ground straps bare steel or plated?

    Rob -

I have several used originals in my "old parts bin", and the crimped-on flat ends with the bolt holes were zinc-plated.

      Rob: How about tinning?

      Rob,

As John says, the ones I've seen have zinc'ed ends. But if you have some originals that have been bead blasted, sanded, or cleaned with acid and the zinc is gone, you could probably tin them with solder if you don't want to go to the hassle of having just the ends re-zinc'ed.

        Re: Original ground straps

Rob - I have some NOS GM ground straps for Dealer radio kits and original ones from my 66 and 67 and from what I can see is as John indicated the end is connector piece is plated (appear to be Zn plated) but the assembled ground strap where the braided copper strap is crimped into the end of the connector appears to be soldered as Gary has mentioned because I can see evidence of flux and solder that has flowed on to, i.e. over, the surface of the connector and back into the copper braided strap.
