1986 Courtesy Lights

The PV manual for 1984-1989 under Interior Courtesy Lamps on page 15 states "when the ignition switch is turned off, the courtesy lights will illuminate for a period of 15 seconds". Mine do not although they work correctly in all other respects. Also, the service manual does not indicate this function as part of the system check routine for the courtesy lights. I also posted the question on a Corvette forum and those replying indicated their cars functioned the same as mine.

Is this an error in the manual or do I need to fix this item in preparation for PV judging? If repair is needed, are there any suggestions where to begin since the repair manual does not cover it.

Dave,

The interior courtesy lights, as well as the spare tire lamp, should all operate on a time delay of about 15 seconds when the key is off/removed, and the doors are closed.

The lights on my '86 work on the 15 second delay, and I made it past PV. You'd better check it out.

My 88 also has a delay when ignition is switched off.

Dave,it appears you are correct and the courtesy lights do not come on for 15 seconds when the ignition is turned off. The team leader agrees. A more detailed response has been emailed to you. If anyone has any information to the contrary, please post and I will check it out.
