Does anyone know if there is a way to differentiate an original C2 side mirror from a repro?

I picked up what was alleged to be an NOS mirror GM 3839611. It has the short base design with the bowtie. It did come in an old GM box with part sticker. It appears identical to my original 65 mirror, except it does not have a date code on the mirror. Wouldn't service replacement mirrors sold through the GM parts system have date codes as well as the DMI or AX markings just like originals? I suspect this may be just a repro tossed in an original GM box.

Don, I had the same thing happen to me on ebay. But the seller was honest and returned my $$$. Here is how to judge a mirror with your eyes closed. On the outer lip-chrome lip-or the very edge of the glass. The original has an indentation where as the SR is smooth. So you can walk by the car-put a finger nail on the edge of the mirror-next to the glass and feel to see if it's smooth-(typical repro) or indented. Typical GM mirrors have some kind of code on the glass. But who knows for sure on this. I don't. John

Thanks John. I can't really tell much difference in the chrome lip between this one and my original. Regardless, I just find it hard to believe that an original would not be date coded.

Don - Over the years I have picked up some NOS mid-year OSRV mirror assemblies in GM boxes and they have had manufacturer and date coded mirror glass. Pete
