    63 voltage regulator

    I just got the mounting screw/wellnut kit for mounting tne voltage regulator on the rad. support. The screws look different than the screw #9415499, which is called out in the 63 assembly instructions, sect 6, sheet C8.00.
    When did they start using the screws as listed in Paragon cat #3488 ?
    (My car was build dec 19,1962) Hope to have the correct ones...

    Re: 63 voltage regulator

    If memory serves, the early mid-year cars used a 'small' wellnut setup while later mid-year cars used a 'large' wellnut system with the change being 63-64 = early and 66-67 = late. The catalog houses sell only one version of well nut fasteners (one size fits all)...

    Comparing my '65 AIM to a '67 AIM the setup was this in 1965:

    Nut= 3876130 and Screw= 9419305

    while it changed to this by 1967:

    Nut= 3876150 and Screw= 3876129

    Plus, if memory serves again, there was a running change in '63 where early cars didn't use a well nut while later cars saw the well nut system come into being.

    You'll find the FULL selection of well nuts (screw and nut size/depth) available from fastener supply houses like Auveco who have local stocking distributors in most major metro areas and a VERY COMPLETE catalog of nothing but automotive fasteners...

      Rainer -

      I'm not that "up" on '63 running changes, but the regulator attaches to the radiator support with plated self-tapping screws, to ground the base of the regulator. Later on ('64?) the regulator moved to the fiberglass inner fender and was attached with well-nuts, but that arrangement also had a separate ground wire from the regulator base to the screw that attached the horn relay to the radiator support, to provide the necessary ground. If the base of the voltage regulator isn't grounded, it won't work.

        You are correct. I got the wrong fasteners. I got the ones using a 10-24 shoulder screw with rubberized well nuts.
        they are not correct for 63. I will use the self tapping sheetmetal screws you suggested. That also agrees with the description in the IM.
        Thaks,
