1966 Corvette with Side Exhaust

Somone told me recently that AO Smith bodied 1966 Corvettes did not have side exhaust. That makes no sense to me at all...the body manufacturer should play no role in the options that are ultimately put on the car on the line at the assembly plant...is there any truth to this? Thanks.

Greg,

The body manufacturer did play a role with side exhaust. The body build procedure was different for side exhaust. No rocker brackets welded to the bird cage, and the bird cage and fiberglass where altered to accommodate the side exhaust. AOS did not have the equipment. Check the archives for more details.
