    C2 66 Differential Cover question

Is the 66 Corvette rear differential cover dated? Also is the cast part number 3871375? Mine is a March built car, the one on my car was replaced and need to find an original. Thanks sincerely Brian

Re: C2 66 Differential Cover question

    Brian-----

3871375 was the casting number used for the cover for all 1965-77 Corvettes. I believe these covers were dated. I am certain that later examples (68-77) were dated and I'm virtually certain that 65-67 were, too.

66 Differential Cover question; some not dated

        Brian,

The orginal differential cover on my July '66 build date car is NOT dated.

My May '67-assembled cover isn't dated either.

My June '66 assembled small block cover is stamped AO 6 7 66...thought they all were dated and coded..guess not.

Re: C2 66 Differential Cover question

              Rob,

This looks like an assembly date for your differential: 3.70:1 positraction rear assembled on June 7, 1966. Please check the "cover" to see if there are any date codes.

                Diff. Cover vs. Diff. housing

                Rob,

John is correct. The code you listed is what is stamped into the bottom flange of the differential housing. That stamping is not on the flange of the differential cover.

                  Gary,

Sorry, my mistake, as you say this data is stamped on the housing flange.
