Re: Block ID
"CE" is a Chevorlet engine replaced under warranty, usually by the dealer. The other number beside the CE is generally accepted as the sequence number for that engine, not a serial number or build date. It is probable that your original engine was replaced under warranty.- Top

Re: Block ID
The CE50956 indicates that this is a service replacement block. I suspect that the engine was replaced, probably under warranty. I have seen other cases where the dealership stamped the engine with the VIN derivative. I have never seen a case where the dealership also stamped the assembly date and suffix code, but this may have happened here.
Can you tell us what the casting date of the block is? Also, what is the body build date of your car? This may help make things clear.
Did I understand correctly that the VIN derivative (7103741) is also stamped into the front pad? The assembly date of 1024 (October 24th) seems to correspond with the expected assembly date of 1967 Corvette # 3741.
Let us know what you find out about the casting date?- Top
