O rings on 78 tank sending unit screws

When I pulled the fuel tank sending unit out of my 78 Silver Anniversary it was clear that the screws that held the fuel tank sending unit to the tank had rubber "O" ring seals on them. All indications are that this sending unit has not been removed since being installed at the factory. Yet the factory parts manuals and the after market catalogs I have checked do not show any "O" rings.

Anyone know anything about this?

The screws used for the fuel sending unit flange did not use a separate o-ring. They used an integral, rubber gasket which may appear like an o-ring. Unfortunately, the screws, GM #473076, are discontinued. I don't know if they are available in reproduction, or not.

However, it may very well be possible to re-use the screws by stripping off all of the adhering seal material and then installing an appropriate size o-ring. I would think this would work quite well.
