    C1/C2 091 Coil

    Hi all,

I have seen a couple of 091 coils that have the two holes per terminal for the tab washer to fit into to keep from spinning during tightening the nut, but they also have shoulders at the side to keep the tab from spinning. Both features are obviously not needed, but I am trying to figure these coils out. Are they later 091s transitioning from the holes to the shoulders, are they later 091 coils that had no holes but someone has added them, or what? Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Bob

in about 1963, the boses(elevated ledges) on the bakelite coi tower were done away with and the holes to retain the tab'd square washers appeared. if your vette is pre-63, you'll need the "ledges" and if post 63, get an 091 without the ledges.mike

        Hi Mikie,

You need one of these automatic robo-mowers for that football field of yours ;-)

Thre was a nice article in Restorer Magazine several years ago that detailed the changes over time on these coils. Things affected:

          (1) Exact height of center tower.

          (2) Position of emboss on the case.

          (3) Style of washer used on primary terminals.

          (4) Presense/absense of washer anti-swivel holes in primary mounting pads.

          (5) Presense/absense of 'shoulders' next to pads on the center tower.

From what you describe (limited number of issues), the coil you're looking at dates to the '62L-65 era...
