Road Tour - Hand held radios

I would like to know the frequency of Channel 427 on the hand held radios used on the Road Tour. Do these radios xmit/receive on the same frequency when on say Channel 427?
    Thanks,
    Charlie

Don't work in small blocks, only work in BB 427's. Only kidding, Charlie Really don't know. See you in Boston.

Jerry, I wondered if Bill perhaps picked that frequency for the Tour just to keep us SB guys from cluttering up the airways!
      Best regards,
      Charlie

Does anybody still use CB radios on the road tours?

Do "Children's Band" radios still work? Seriously there is so much clutter on the CB it is hard to find a channel to use. The last road tour that I led I ran a 1KW linear amplifier and had no problems talking to the rest of the group (and people 25 miles from me had no problems hearing me either ), but could not hear them because of the massive interference.

            Dick -

Now you've taken me back to 1976, when I had a Browning Golden Eagle, a D-104, a water-cooled 1-KW linear when necessary to cut through the clutter, and Moonrakers and a rotor on a 20-foot tower on the roof of a 2-story colonial. Yup, I could "get out" when I had to.

The 200-watt linear in the car was fun too - if you pulled up next to a VW 411 squareback (first VW with Bosch electronic fuel injection) and keyed the mike, the VW would stall (not much RFI protection).

John in that era I was running a 12 tube (6JE6) linear. I had more fun with the VW's than the "law allowed" I had a friend that had one. Everytime I would see him, I would key the mike down and whistle and watch him pull over to the side of the road. He drove the dealer crazy. Last time I saw that car the engine was covered in screen wire grounded to the battery.

I still run my CB. On our recent trip to "the South" it helped locate the County Mounties.
I find the hand held radios are ok if you are touching bumpers.

Gary, thus my request that kicked off this thread. I reckon I'll take a hand held to a radio shop and let them determine on what frequency Channel 427 xmits so I can use a radio with cojones el grande on that frequency. I figue 1Kw will work nicely.
