Just took the door and trunk lock mechanisms out of my '61 for cleaning. Can anyone steer me to the correct lubrication to apply to them before I reinstall them in the car? Also should I lubricate the guides for the window regulator rollers, and would that be the same type of lube or something different? Thanks in advance. John.

Re: Lubrication

You could use Lubriplate white grease for these applications which is a commonly used lubricant for such parts. However, if it were me, I'd use regular lithium-based EP chassis lube such as GM #12377985.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Lubrication
Joe,
I agree, and I have often wondered why the automakers use lubriplate in some applications rather than a lithium based grease. Maybe it's an economic issue. Some applications where it was used seem way too heavy duty for the lubricant; the counter-balanced hood hinges on some of the old cars comes to mind. Also, with age (not nearly 30 years), lubriplate tends to become a dry, cracked solid providing NO lubrication.
