agree with terry, there was not a seperate expansion tank used in 56 like the 6 cyl vettes and the sbc midyears. i suspect what you're seeking is the upper tank of the radiator that is soldered to the radiator core. try dewitt. mike- Top

The previous responses probably answer your question. But, if you truly want to add an expansion tank I did temporarily put one on my '57. (I have since removed it as I found it was no longer needed after curing a temporary overheating problem.)
But, when I had one, I got a generic plastic one from an auto parts store and painted it flat black and hid it under the fender near the battery area. The overflow line ran concealed under the fresh air hose, using the support clamp for the heater hoses. It worked well, and was not obtrusive, and gave added reassurance for tough hot weather, high traffic, driving conditions.
