The engine and bellhousing is presently out of my Corvette. Can the transmission be removed from the car without having to disconnect the shifter and shifter linkage from the transmision case? Any thoughts on transmission removal with the least amount of dissassembly is appreciated. Thanks in advance for all responses.

The linkage has to be removed. However, it's VERY easy to do. I prefer un-bolting the linkage, disconnecting the shifter rods at the levers, and removing the linkage from above (requires console removal). Reverse procedure to install. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 66-427 transmission removal
If you have a late 66 the shifter is mounted to the frame. In either case early or late the shifter handle must be lowered to clear the body to get it out so I'd think the shifter needs to be separated from the trans because the tailshaft needs to clear the cross member before the trans can be lowered.
Its no big deal to remove the shift levers from the trans.....- Top
