    Fuel Injection Distributor Cap

I noticed in the '56 '57 judging manual that the distributor cap configuration is not mentioned. Does anyone know what the correct cap would be for a 906 distributor? Does it say delco remy on the top? Is there anything else specific to the outside of the cap? Thanks in advance for the help.

No exterior logos at all if I remember correctly, same as 55-56 Chevy Pass Car, etc.

Bob, Rather plain cap D305 which is still available from except that the one you buy today is a reboxed NAPA cap. Napa RR158. But here is the difference. Between the towers on a D305 there are round mold marks about 1/8" diameter that were probably used for pouring the mold. Most of the replacements don't have this. Also that came is typically aluminum inserts although some were made with brass inserts and that cap goes by another number. Supposedly the 908 FI distributors used the copper cap and the carb cars and other FI's used the aluminum inserts. One cap fits at least the 57 to 61 carb cars and the 57-58 FI cars, etc. All over ebay. Getting pricey though. As Clupper told you no logo's on the outside. John

            Here's a D-305 w/aluminum inserts

an eBay purchase 4 years ago. I remember thinking I was bilked @ $12. winning bid, as there was nothing on the topside, although the small Delco symbol and mold # is underside. Shows the small mold injection marks that John De G. mentions.

Wayne, Glad you didn't get bilked. You made money on that cap for sure. Anyhow there is also a replacement cap out there that also has the mold injection marks between towers. Not quite the same but 90% wouldn't know the difference. John

Bill, John and Wayne, thanks very much for clearing this up for me. Now I know what to look for.

Bob, If you just go to NAPA and order a cap for the money you can't beat it. I doubt if you will get dinged for it as most of the guys just don't know 57 caps. John

                        John,
Thanks. I guess there is no point looking for an original one then.
