Can someone describe or post a picture of the GM tabs on the intake manifold gaskets that the judges take points for. Thanks, Jimmy

Re: C-1 1959 Intake Manifold Gaskets
The tabs the judges are looking for, are on the rubber gaskets that are on the front and rear of the block. On the two little rubber legs that straddle the metal web between cylinder heads there is supposed to be a tiny "GM" in raised letters on each leg. I haven't been able to locate them aywhere!
If you or any others know where these can be located....please let me know!- Top

Re: C-1 1959 Intake Manifold Gaskets
Jimmy,
The configuration pieces commonly referred to as "tabs" are the ones located on the intake gaskets between the intake and heads, not the rubber end gaskets. See the link to Paragon's site below, as they do make reproductions.
In the picture below note the "bump" next to the exhaust crossover ports. Those are the tabs.

Re: C-1 1959 Intake Manifold Gaskets
Patrick-----
Yes, the "humps" seen in the photo to the right of the heat cross-over passages is one of the features that is judged. The color of the gasket material is another. Paragon's gasket set reproduces both of these features.
However, as Brad mentioned, another feature that is, apparently, judged is the tiny "GM" embossment on one of the exposed tabs of the rubber end seals. 55-68 small blocks used the "tab"-locating end seals. 1969+ small blocks (until they went to RTV end seals in about 1978) used the "pin"-locating end seals. However, even on these there is a small, exposed tab with the "GM" embossment. As far as I know, the Paragon gasket set end seals do not include this feature. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: C-1 1959 Intake Manifold Gaskets
Joe,
Correct. However, he asked about the "tabs." So, I informed him about the tabs.
Short of an NOS set of intake gaskets he will not find a reproduced GM logo on an end seal.
Many just use RTV seal anyway and don't worry about a point or two deduction.

Re: C-1 1959 Intake Manifold Gaskets
Patrick, My 63 FI car has a set of NOS intake gaskets. A year or two ago I was an observer judge on Carlton's team. I quickly learned from Jimmy Greg and Duane what the tabs are. They are located on the rubber ends. A tab sticks out that is square and has GM embossed on this small tab. Only confusing thing is that there are several variations of the GM tab as far as size of font or type goes. The boys do check these out(not the size of the type though) NONE of the repro rubber seals are correct. I know for sure because I sell them. But the repro long gaskets are pretty nice. But you do have to massage them a tad (not tab) Massage means that the humps on the repro have a verticle rib that sticks out. Well you just put them in a vise and crush or smash the rib flat. Only way you are going to get the rubber GM ends is to buy a NOS set. But I will tell you it's worth it. Nice detail. John D.- Top
