Looking for advice on how to strip my spare tire carrier of undercoating and paint.

I used mineral spirits to get the undercoating off and followed it up with pain stripper to remove the paint. Once I was done, I sprayed the fiberglass with some spray detailer and it looks great.

You might want to be careful with the paint stripper. Some brands might attack the fiberglass. I used lacquer thinner on my tub. It removed old paint and doesn't damage the fiberglass. The mineral spirits work fine on the old undercoating. Remember plenty of ventillation with the lacquer thinner.

Hi,
I used aircraft stripper which is available at Car Quest etc. It did not hurt the fiberglass and left it with the factory fresh look. Blast and paint the steel support, use the proper aluminum rivets to fasten it, and you will be done. Mark
