63 radiator fan

I think I found a NOS (5) blade radiator fan for my early 63 SWC. It has the correct round rivets, the H and FRONT stamped on the hub. But the Dia is 18", not 17 1/8" like the IM states. Where there fans with a larger Dia used on the corvettes, or is it possibly a fan which was used on other GM engines during that period.
Would this fan pass inspection ?

The 18" fan came with option C-60 (AC) on the 63 and early 64's. I seem to remember from Nolan's book this may have also been used in 66 w/C-60

The pitch of the blades is a little steeper and the blades are longer. The dimension is identified in the JM, so I doubt it will pass without deduct on a car without air conditioning.

Rainer - If the fan blade assembly is identical in configuration, i.e. blade and support configuration, as the 3770529 fan blade assembly, it could well be as Tracy indicated one of the fan blade assemblies used on 63-64 or 66-67 sb corvettes w/ C60. Unfortunately without a part number (do you have a p/n?) or a picture, it's difficult to tell if it would pass in judging or to give an accurate answer on the possible used of the fan blade assembly because there were a number of different 18" dia fan blade assemblies used by GM. Thanks, Tracy and Chris. Looks like this is an A/C fan. I think I read something in Nolan's book last night, about the A/C application. I will read the article again tonight. I will post a pic tomorrow. There is no part number on the fan.

Also, keep in mind that MANY passenger car applications used an 18" fan blade assembly and these assemblies can appear very similar to Corvette applications.

I can't positively ID the fan from the photo. One of the dumbest things that GM ever did was not specify that a part number be embossed on all fan blade assemblies (as well as many other parts). I suppose the reason was that from a PRODUCTION perspective, it didn't hold any value for them; they had other ways of "keeping things straight" on the assembly line.

Rainer - I'd say it's p/n 3789562 fan blade assembly (18" dia., 5 blades - 4 bolt circle) that the pats Book has listed for 63-64 CORVETTE w/ C.A.C (1st design) and 66-67 CORVETTE w/ C.A.C. (327) (2nd design). In addition there are several other Chevrolet Division applications mentioned including 63 PASS w/ RPO Z11, and 65 & 66 Series 10-20-30 and probably some Chevelle application. FYI, C.A.C. is Car Air Conditioning and refers to Factory installed C60 versus Dealer Added underdash air conditioning or Cool Pack, C. P.. If it's the Chevrolet Dealer Added version, you will see it listed many time as CHEV C. P.

It's worth noting that the 64 CORVETTE application might not be extensive because we know from experience and the AIMs that there was a 7 blade fan assembly, p/n 3853943 used on 64 and 65 Corvettes w/ C60
