    I'm having Pulley Meltdown

    I'm in the process of building up my 65 Vert, 327 350hp, Factory AC and PS. I pulled a 350 out that had miss matched pulleys, washers for spacers etc.

    I need to order a complete set of pulleys, Crankshaft, Alt, Water Pump and PS pump. I have looked at several vendor sites and see everything from exc SHP, 2 groove, deep groove, SHP and the list goes on.

    I need to get this right the first time, can anyone tell me what I really need or part numbers. I don't care where I buy them as long as I get the right stuff.

    Thanks, this ones making my head hurt.

    Dennis,

    Although your engine uses hydraulic lifters, it is considered a SHP engine in Chevrolet's "Big Block mode" parlance. As such, it uses deep grove pulleys.

      Dennis----

      Pulley problems can be very frustrating. It's the kind of question I fear most. Here's what I THINK that you need; no guarantees, though.

      water pump---2 groove, stamped steel pulley----PRODUCTION may have used either GM #3850979 or GM #3848904. Only the 3848904 was ever available in SERVICE. It was discontinued in 1972 and replaced by GM #3995641. It's still available from GM. The "hat" section is different from your original, but it's fully functional. The 3848904 is reproduced;

      crank pulley---2 groove, stamped steel pulley----PRODUCTION and SERVICE was GM #3827843. It was discontinued without supercession more than 25 years ago. It is available in reproduction;

      alternator pulley----single groove, machined steel pulley----PRODUCTION may have been either GM #3848023 or GM #3846180. I can't find that the 3848023 was ever available in SERVICE. The 3846180 was discontinued from SERVICE years ago and replaced by GM #3844100. The 3844100 was also discontinued quite a few years ago. This pulley is available in reproduction;

      power steering pump----single groove, stamped steel-----PRODUCTION and SERVICE was GM #3868892. It was discontinued without supercession over 20 years ago. I believe that a GM #3770509 will work. However, I think that the 3868892 is available in reproduction.
