    L-88 air filter

Does anyone know if K&N makes a filter that will fit into an L-88 hood and seal properly?

    Thanks,
    Rex

    Re: L-88 air filter

Rex, The L88 foam is standard 14" size. The problem with the K & N, as I see it, is that it wouldn't be flexible enough to get it into the hood. I also don't think it waould seal very well top and bottom. I looked at this a while back because I consider the stock L88 filter to be little more than a rock strainer. I remembered the terrific foam filters we used back in my dirt bike racing days. They did a great job in an incredibly hostile environment. I found that Unifilter has the right size. It even has a foam flange top and bottom to provide a better seal than stock. I didn't pursue it only because of inertia.

Rex, It's not made specifically for L88. It may not even be designed for a Chevy, but it is high quality two stage foam, and is the right dimensions, namely 14 x 4 inches, which is what the L88 hood is looking for. You would be working outside the box here, experimenting.

          Re: L-88 air filter

For anyone interested in better air filtration for tehir L-88's I bought a K&N filter today (part # E-1650) and it fits nicely. Installed the foam in the hood first then convinced the K&N filter (very flexible) to join it and then placed the metal screen inside the K&N filter. Fits nice, looks good and filters even better.
