C2 Plastic v Metal door knob?

For the 64-67 C2 the chrome inside door knob appears to have changed over the years. The 64 AIM lists it as 3846934 while P&A (71) pictures it as 3829456, but still lists it under 3846934.
Repro houses list a plastic and metal model, so what is correct?
Did numbers change in latter AIM? Did vendors supply different knob material?
Has anyone done a study on the subject?
    Thanks
    Alan

MY April 67 coupe has metal knobs... interchangeable with the seat knobs.

My take is plastic knobs are aftermarket.......

      Alan -

The knob never changed - it was always the 934 chrome metal knob; anything else is aftermarket or reproduction.
