    "air car itis " again

Out for a Saturday spin and my 66 shut down completely 3 times. I know it was electrical because the radio went off simultaneously. The first time I got out and wiggled the bulkhead connector (thank you NCRS tech forum)and resumed and the last 2 times I just coasted ( about 30 seconds) until the radio came on again and then restarted the engine.

I previously have cleaned the bulkead connector with a dremmel tool.

I would like to run a parallel #10 wire from the horn relay (same terminal as the #12 red wire (power feed)thru the firewall and land on the line (input) side of the headlight circuit breaker. As I read the wiring diagram, this looks like a parallel connection. Anybody see any electrical issue before I burn up my 66?

I also disassembled my green knob battery disconnect switch and inspected the contact area. Nothing obvious to me but I filed smooth the electrical mating surface. I hope I did not remove any special plating

That's how I fixed mine also. There are some other ways that hide the fix better, one involves tying the hot inside the engine jumping it to the rear of the fuse block when taken apart.

Randy, You hit it on the last item. Those green knob switches are trouble. I have gone thru a lot of them. Put a new one on and try it. John

I usually wire from inside the fuse box though the original terminal to the outside harness and retape the harness. You cant tell its there.

I just did a reconnect like Wayne in the fuse block / bulkhead and so far no problem. Don H.

There have been enough complaints about the green knobs, including name brand units, that I would never advise anyone to use one. I had issues with mine and I ditched it. Go with the "knife blade" style and you have positive contact with visual confirmation each time.

                Randy,

Those "green knob" disconnects are electrical nightmares. Even if it looks clean and tight....it's not. Get rid of that switch and keep the battery terminals really clean.

A plethora of excellent battery cutoff switches. I have one mounted on the passengers angled portion of the firewall and reachable from the drivers seat.
