Did GM repair damaged bodies and than return them back to the line? 1972I am finding this under original paint in hard to see places.
Cleaning the rear strut rods I found lots of blue gray paint is this the same color as the shocks?
Yes, damaged bodies were repaired. I'll bet that they rarely "threw one away".
The strut rods were not painted for the 1972 model year. Often, strut rods have forging "flash" which is kind of "flaky" and of a bluish-black color. However, if you're sure that what you have is paint, I'd say that it was applied long after the car left St. Louis.
Joe thanks
was not paint but large enough to take a sample.Well shocks are that color now.The grinding pads they used had to be big ,the grit was 24 or larger rocks glued to the pad.
