Duke and all-Thanks Duke for the eyewitness report on the Red/Black L88 coupe. There seemed to be some doubt in some of the posters replies as to the validity of your account. My son's auto shop teacher owned the Red/Red L88 coupe here in the Detroit area and used it as a daily driver until he discovered the tank sheet.Remember guys these were just used cars in the 70's they were'nt being thought of as collectors items.I always wondered about the story behind the car you described. Thanks again for the very personal account.By the way i enjoyed your letter to the editor/mini article on the Vegas in Collectible Automobile.I worked on a experimental sheet metal block Vega motor back in the 70's.We called it the "Tin Duke"! Regards,Lou

Re: The 'Aluminum Duke'?
I actually got the nickname "Duke" when I worked for Pontiac in 1968. I got a good chuckle out the the "Iron Duke" name that they gave to the resurrected Chevy II four-cylinder whose tooling had spent the previous ten years at GM Brazil, but another ten years had passed and I'm sure there was no connection.
