looked at a 66 L-79 today and the tach redlines from 6500-7000 like a 425 horse. car appears to be the real deal is it possible that the factory mistakenly put the wrong tach in the car or has someone simply changed the tach over the years which all the owners I talked to said they never did

Re: 66 L-79 tach redline
Look at the rear of the instrument cluster for a tag/sticker. I don't know if 66 followed 67 codes, (maybe someone has the 66 codes) but on a 67 WITHOUT speed warning the tag will be LC in red letters + some actual part numbers if it a correct cluster The tach redline is 6000 RPM on a 67 L79.- Top

Re: 66 L-79 tach redline
I forgot to state why the tag means something. If its LC with a 6500RPM redline then someone has changed the tach. If its an LB tag then someone changed the entire cluster to a 6500RPM cluster. If it has no tag then someone has probably been into the cluster for rebuild......and anything is possible....- Top
