That's the original color for my car with signet red interior and a silver cove. I asked on an earlier discussion board question what the signet red should look like and the response was "like tomato soup". So, what does this charcoal look like? In a sample pint that I had mixed I saw the man put in the metallic and it was silver. But, when a test panel was painted, the paint looked like it had multi-colored metallic in it. Does this sound familiar? I'm not thinking that it is going to be a very pretty color. Maybe that is why they changed the paint in late 1958 to black?

Re: 1958 Charcoal Paint
A charcoal car (especially with silver coves) is a beautiful and rear combination. If the paint matches the original it should be an awesum car!!!

Re: 1958 Charcoal Paint
Hi Justin,
These aren't my cars but actually these are two cars which are published in the C1 Registry. I just used their pictures as examples of the end result...

Re: 1958 Charcoal Paint
If I recall correctly there are 2 gorgeous "twin" cars, in this color, licenced in Oregon. I saw them at a chapter meet in Berkeley CA and again at the National meet in Utah a few years back. Hopefully, one or both owners read the posts.

Re: 1958 Charcoal Paint
I bought a 58 quite a while back it was red, white cove & red int. - since i just had a 63swc red for 6 years i redid the car in charcoal/silver. It seems every time I showed the car if another charcoal showed up our colors never matched. It's a tough color to get right - I have a friend with a mossport car who went thru the team leader for an opinion on final color. You may want to get some input as to who might make a most correct shade. Good luck.- Top

Re: 1958 Charcoal Paint
Justin,
From my perspective, 1958 Charcoal color is a very dark gray, almost a smoky black with metallic particles. It's really a very hansome color. And with a silver cove and red interior, man what a nice combination.
