Is the 1971 rear valence panel unique? Does the 1971 rear valence panel have a cutout to clear the spare tire carrier "A" frame? I have two GM panels, one with a clearance cut and one without - which is correct. The one I have with no clearance cut is in better shape and the one I would like to use.

John-----
There were 2 different panels used for the 1971 model year. Early cars used panel GM #3965545, which was the same as the panel used for 1970. Later cars used panel GM #3977870, which was the same as all 1972-73. I'm sure that there is some difference in these panels, but I don't know what it is.
I am a little unclear on what you mean by "...a cutout to clear the spare tire carrier...". All 1968-73 rear filler panels have what I would call a "cutout" for the purpose you describe. Are you talking about some ADDITIONAL relieved or "cutout" area?In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: C3 Rear Valence Panel
Joe,
Thanks for the information. Upon further investigation, both panels I have are GM #3977870. I think the previous owner (there was only 1) probably cut a rectangular notch, in the original panel (and did a professional smooth job), in the apex of the triangular clearance area to provide even more clearance for the spare tire carrier when it swings up. I will use the uncut panel for my '71.- Top
