Unless you have about 30K to drop

If you find a little treasure like mine, here is my advise.

Slowly turn around and run like a scalded dog for your car and lock the doors!

Ok, honest, I'm done, it's time to get back on track.

Were the automatic seat belt retractors rusted and unusable? You definiatley will have some hours and work put into this 68 when you get it finished.

Re: Everything was laying in 2" of water

Plus the gauge cluster, the radio and the rest of the plastic components for the interior were thrown onto the rear deck with the rear window removed.

Needless to say, everything was corroded and shot beyond repair.

I told you guys I was a glutton for punishment

When you get done with that thing, you may wish that it had only cost $30,000. That's one of the biggest problems with folks getting involved in restorations; they usually WAY underestimate what it's going to cost. I'm glad they do, though, since, otherwise, a lot of restorations might never get done. For the sake of the cars, I'm glad that folks are unrealistic when they get into these projects.

My biggest enemy for my project has been the time.

The time required to do the project is the OTHER thing that folks usually WAY underestimate when they get into the projects. Eventually, they start "farming out" big chunks of the project to get it done. That drives up the cost.

                  Re: Absolutely correct Joe

It's one of the biggest killers of projects next to funding. The wife and kiddies come in a real close third.

I absolutley refuse to farm out anything that I either know or can learn how to do.

That's probably why my now nine year old grandson will be taking it out on it's maiden cruise with ole "Bumpa" riding shotgun

                    Chuck,

Actually some would consider yours a "trailer queen" compared to my start !
(don't know how to post pic; if someone can explain, will post it).
                    But yes, lot pulling from:

                    1) $

                    2) time

                    3) family/kids

                    4) self doubt

But so far would not have traded it for much anything else. Learning a lot,
enjoying it, and meeting a LOT of good people in NCRS/etc !

                    Les

Cuck, My first Corvette (body) pictured below. Frame of same car pictured next. After about 12 years collecting parts, I sold it when we moved and could find no more room in the Inn.

Best of luck on your enjoyment.

I wish I knew how to attach pictures in this format...I am roughly half way through a Katrina flooded and abused '74 Coupe...Right now I am waiting for the entire Birdcage to get back from metal repair and powdercoat in Jackson MS....Next week, the cage gets jigged up, and the body begins to go back together.....hellova way to get back into a Corvette project after 27 years of pushing a pencil!

                              Hey Tom read this

I sold my 74 with 16,000 miles, orig exhaust, carpets, shocks, wires, hoses, belts, air cleaner, little white tag on the master bail etc. orig.4 speed A/C P/S P/B P/W Factory alarm, leather, tilt/tele, CC1 glass tops, rear def etc. I painted it black in 1976. Sold it for $14,000 last August. The paint was better than a 2006. I saved the car for thirty years and gave it to my next door buddy who drives it every nice day. I kept the orig tires and wheels they have 3,000 miles on them. Phil 8063 I miss it very day
