My '63, I learned yesterday, was accepted for flight judging at the Nationals. I've yet to buy a set of bias plys and have top flighted locally without them. I am going to get a set for this event. My question is simply is Coker a good "turnkey" vendor for wheels and tires that will provide a reasonable result for judging purposes. I am not looking for points perfection, just a good representation of originality. Thanks.

Re: '63 tires/wheels
Jim, 63 wheels are tough to find. And also very expensive. It's not a simple matter of buying repros as they are not available. Buying repro tires is no big deal but buying the wheels is another matter. 63 wheels are on their own. 64's are close except for an extra hole. Then you need the correct wheel weights, correct stems and caps, etc. Not easy for sure especially with the national around the corner. Good luck, John- Top

Re: '63 tires/wheels
John....just how do you identify a real '63 wheel? I have a set that a friend of mine gave me off his original '63 that a local tire store had told him to replace because of their age. I have a lot of info but would like to verify that these wheels are the real deals.....Regards Frank- Top

Re: '63 tires/wheels
Frank, The wheels are not really my forte except for having owned my share of 63's. I assume you have the judging manual. Refer to page 60 of the 4th edition. section 21 for an excellent description. If you know nothing at all about the wheel the easiest thing is to look for the date on the inside. Mine are dated Feb 63. Car's birthday is March 2nd or 3rd. 2nd easy thing is that the 63 and 64 are really easy to spot in the the inside of that has a nice sweeping conical appearance. The later wheels typically have a step here. When I am looking at them face side up at a flea market I look at the valve stem hole. THere are two ridges or verticle ribs. One on each side of the valve stem hole. Of course they are 15X5-1/2 KH's.
Meanwhile there are a ton of posts on this subject. For better info for into the archives. By the way I always thought that 63 and 64 wheels were the same until a few years ago. The 64 has an extra hole in the center section for some reason. Welded together also. John- Top
