Attempting to determine the part number used on the 1958 RPO 579 tachometer that was driven from the small gearbox mounted on the rear of the distributor. According to Nolan Adams' restoration and technical guide Vol.1 the part number for the RPO 469 (270 hp 2x4 high-lift cam) which was driven off the generator was 1558773. He does not list the part number for the RPO 579 version.
My 58 has the high-lift cam tachometer that has a ink stamped date of DEC 16 1957 and a part number that is difficult to read from under the dash but it appears to be 15?87?6 W. I believe the first ? could be a 4 and the second could be a 0 or 8. But then I could also be wrong.
Back in 1973 when I bought the car the seller indicated that the car originally had a high performance engine. The date on the tachometer corresponses with the December 26, 1957 build date of the car.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
