Without getting out all my Corvette paraphenalia, is there any easy way to tell a genuine GM Corvette '68-'72 small block hood from a repro? What are the tell tale signs that one should look for? I found a hood for my car, and I just wat to make sure it's a real hood, not an Ecklers etc. hood. Thanks In Advance!!

Re: '68-'72 SB hood
Jeremy,
When viewing a hood up and still attached to the car, just below where the hood latch cable is attached near the middle of the hood reinforcement area is a set of 13 numbers that are upside down cast into the hood panel. I don't believe that any aftermarket hoods reproduce this on their product.- Top

Re: '68-'72 SB hood
The hood I'm going to look at is off of a '72, and it's for my '70, early car. Hopefully it should be fine....I've never had to get a hood before, I just open and close 'em, not really paying much attention to the undersides.- Top

Re: '68-'72 SB hood
I think 1972 hood is different from the 1969L-1971 hood in that 1972 had a different location for the hood prop to fasten to. The folding 1972 prop is shorter than the 1969-1971 colapsing hood prop, and thus fastens to the hood more toward the hinge than the earlier prop.Terry- Top
